Massey University’s Leading-Edge Cricket Development Programmes provides an opportunity for cricket players to experience what New Zealand has to offer on the cricket field, in the classroom and from a cultural and sightseeing perspective. The purpose of Leading Edge is to give cricket players an experience they will never forget. Leading Edge Dronacharya, a tailor-made programme combines a fifteen days programme in Palmerston North, New Zealand. The combined programme gives participants the chance to further nurture their talent and develop their cricketing skills, through training, coaching and matches, whilst during their time in New Zealand also learning from sports-related presenters and academics, and experiencing some extra-curricular activities.
An attraction of Leading Edge is the cricket personnel involved. Leading Edge participants interact with, and are coached by, several ex-International cricketers. Former Black Cap Jacob Oram is the Head Coach. Participants are taught by world class high performance providers and teachers on mental skills and fitness, and are supported by the passionate staff at Massey University.
Leading Edge is not all training and hard work for students however. Cultural and sightseeing activities are included in the New Zealand programme, such as a visit to Wellington, to wildlife park Mount Bruce, a Maori experience and an exploration of the Manawatu Gorge.
